How can we develop Service in our school community?

It is interesting looking at the promises made by Cub Scouts and Brownies.

“I promise that I will do my best. To do my duty to God and to the Queen. To help other people And to keep the Cub Scout Law”

“I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Law.”

The Brownie and Cub Scout Laws show the importance of thinking of others before themselves and doing a good turn every day.

An important part of Service and thinking of others before themselves is being able to listen to other people.  Some people think that “listening” is becoming a dying skill.

Let’s remember that, in order for us to be truly interdependent, we need to listen to other people.  To be truly heard by another person is a great gift we can give each other.  Let’s really try to show service to each other by being excellent listeners.
