Dear Parents/Carers,
We have had a very busy few weeks at Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School.
Thank you to all the children who gave up Thursday evening to help with our open evening on Thursday, 27th September. It was a very successful event and visitors really appreciated the great work of our student body as seen by the comments below:
“May we take this opportunity to congratulate you and all your staff on an excellent Open Evening at DTMS last night. It was very well planned out and the activities and workshops were outstanding. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the evening as did all the other children and parents we spoke to. Happy parents and happy children ! “
“We (myself, my husband and my son) attended the open evening at the school this evening. I wanted to write to say how excellent our tour guide was. She was very polite and very articulate about the school and her experience there. She answered all our questions, showed us everything we wanted to see, and was very patient, waiting while we tried the various activities in the class rooms. She was our guide from 5.30 pm until nearly 7.00 pm and was enthusiastic the whole time.”
Thank you once again to all those who gave up their time to represent our school.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Today saw our annual Macmillan Coffee Morning for Year 5 Parents. Thank you to all those people who donated cakes and raffle prizes. Some people did very well in the raffle! We raised £400.
Dr Thomlinson Sporting Fixtures
Our school’s sporting fixtures have resumed and I am able to state that history has been made. Dr Thomlinson CofE Middle School have won their first ever netball league match (well, in living memory…)!
Netball Match Report – Dr Thomlinson’ v Duchess
The Best Team for 10 Years
An excellent Dr T’s performance in the opening netball match of
the season saw a hard fought victory against a lively Duchess Team. For the
first time in ten years Dr Thomlinson’s C of E Middle School won a netball
match. Ten years is a long time to wait! Lilly won the toss and we
decided to start the game. The first quarter was tight with Dr T’s scoring near
to the end with a fine shot from Milly – 1-0 to Dr T’s. Scoring our first goal
of the season was thrilling. In the second quarter our team were working
really hard and a good pass allowed Ellie the opportunity to shoot and score –
2-0 to Dr T’s. Duchess started to put pressure on our defence and scored – 2-1
to Dr T’s. In the third quarter the game started to open up and Dr T’s had more
chances to increase their lead. Excellent teamwork moved the ball quickly in to
the final third and Ellie shot and scored – 3-1. The final quarter of the
match saw the Dr T’s players hold on to their lead with excellent defending.
The whistle blew and the match was over. We had won! I’m sure Duchess were
disappointed but the way our team played – we deserved it! Well Done Dr T’s!!
The Team – Catalina (Player of the match), Ellie (2 goals), Milly
(1 goal), Lilly and Bella who did some excellent passes, Laila and Martha who
were fantastic in defence and Olivia who was a great goalkeeper. Next fixture
is at home against Ashington.
Thank you to Ellie and Milly for this blow by blow account.
We have a busy week ahead of us in terms of sporting fixtures. On Monday our U11 girls are playing Chantry Middle School; our students are taking part in the Northumberland Cross-Country event at Gateshead stadium on Tuesday and on the same day our U11 boys are playing football against Chantry.
