Change to Teacher Training Days

9th December 2020Miss T Carnaby

The Department for Education (DfE) is seeking to minimise the burden of track and trace falling on schools over the Christmas period and has suggested that schools
use Friday 18 December as an In Service Training Day to support this aim.
Therefore, all of the schools within The Three Rivers Learning Trust will break up for Christmas for students at the end of the school day on Thursday 17 December.

The letter issued to all parents/carers from the CEO, Mr Simon Taylor can be read here.

Please note that the school telephones will not be monitored over the holiday period, so in the event of a +Covid case that we need to be aware of, please email [email protected].

Message from the Headteacher 4.12.20

4th December 2020Miss T Carnaby

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope this message finds you well.  We have had a lovely week at Dr Thomlinson CofE Middle School.

Advent Reflection

Sunday, 29th November was Advent Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent and the school is using resources devised by Prayer Space in Schools and the Archbishop of York Youth Trust to create a space in school where children can take a moment and pause and reflect on some of the most important things during the special season.  Part of this week’s Advent Prayer Space in School has been a sleeping bag placed on cardboard in our entrance foyer (please see below).  As a school we reflected on the fact that – unfortunately –  4750 people sleep on UK streets on any given night of the year.  We were all asked to stop for a moment – be thankful for what we have and offer hope and a prayer for people this Christmas who have no homes.  During this week we raised awareness of Shelter – a registered charity that campaigns to end homelessness and bad housing in England and Scotland.  You can support this charity by visiting their website https://england.shelter.org.uk

Social Media Presentation for Parents

Please find attached a social media presentation for parents from our Community Safety Officer.  The purpose of this presentation is to familiarise you with some of the popular sites being used by young people, to identify how and when they may be at risk and to help you to support them to use social media safely and legally.  Please take some time to read the presentation.

Parent Evening

It was lovely to see some of you during our first ever “remote” Parent Evening yesterday evening.  We have two more evenings on Tuesday, December 8th and Thursday, December 17th.  Can I ask those who have booked appointments to contact the school if they think they will be unable to attend as then we can offer these times to other parents.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

Message from the Headteacher 20.11.20

20th November 2020Miss T Carnaby

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope this message finds you well.  We have had a really good week at Dr Thomlinson CofE Middle School.

Anti-Bullying Week

This week was national Anti-Bullying Week and our school celebrated Odd Socks Day – a day when we celebrate diversity through wearing odd socks to school.  Thank you to all of those children who participated in this event.  We were particularly impressed with the odd socks of the following pupils and those listed all won a prize.

Odd Sock Day Winners:

Yr 5 – Emily & Jonah

Yr 7 – Max; Lucy; Daisy; Isla

Yr 8 Isobel; Felix; Elidih

We were so impressed with Mrs Wilson’s odd socks that she won a prize as well.  Well done Mrs Wilson!

Well done to Sarah in Year 6 who has been published in a national publication.  The title of the book is “Ridiculous Writers” and Sarah’s story was entitled “The Un-Colourful Rainbow”.

The Un-Colourful Rainbow

The colourful rainbow created an amazing arch above the bath bomb factory.  One day, Bomb Dalton, the blundering scientist, put real bomb powder into the bath bomb mix and made the factory explode in a dazzling cloud of fruit, glistening glitter and sparkles.  The fragrances drifted upwards and made the rainbow sneeze so much that she sneezed out all her vibrant colours, leaving her dull and miserable.  Her friend, Una the Unicorn, carefully collected the bath bomb dyes gushing out of the factory.  She flew up to the un-colourful rainbow and perfectly painted her radiant and cheery again.

Well done to all of these award winners

Christmas @ Dr Thomlinson’s

Christmas Dinner Day is Wednesday 16th December.  We will also be celebrating Christmas Jumper Day on that day as well.

Our Christmas Tree will be in the foyer for the whole of Advent

“Stars for the Church”

This year each child at Dr Thomlinson CofE Middle School will be given a Christmas Star.  They will be able to decorate this star in a festive manner and then, on the back of the Star give a Christmas wish and message.  These stars will then be collected by Canon Sinclair on December 11th and will be displayed over the festive season in All Saints Church, Rothbury so our Christmas wishes can be shared with the whole of our community.  We suggest that all children providing a star for the display make a suggested £1 donation to the Alnwick Food Bank. Of course staff are welcome to join in this festive scheme.

This year’s Christmas Star display will, for this year, replace the giving and receiving of Christmas Cards in School.

Take care,

Liam Murtagh

Dear Parent/Carer

Dr Thomlinson CofE Middle School – Virtual Open Evening

As your child is now in Year 4 and will be moving on to the next phase of their education in September 2021 we wanted to share some information with you about our school and how to apply for a place.

It is of great disappointment that due to the current situation regarding COVID-19 we are unable to offer the opportunity for you to come and visit the school in person. However, in order to help you make an informed decision about which school to apply to, we have produced a set of resources and information about the school.

  • Open Evening Presentation
  • Prospectus
  • Tour of the School

You can also view our school website here.  We really hope you get a flavour of our school through these resources.

The portal for applying for Middle School places in Northumberland is now open and closes at midnight on Wednesday 31 October 2020.  Further information about the admissions process can be found by following the link here. Final confirmation regarding the allocation of places is made on Monday 1 March 2021.

If you have any questions or queries relating to any of this information please do not hesitate to contact us on 01669620287 or via email at [email protected].

Yours faithfully,

Liam Murtagh – Headteacher

Covid19 Update

8th October 2020Miss T Carnaby

8 October 2020

An individual in school has received a positive coronavirus test on 7 October 2020 and the students and staff who have been in close contact in the past 48 hours are isolating for 14 days.  The school contacted DFE/PHE immediately and they are providing the school and Trust with advice and guidance on both the isolating group and the continuing safety of staff and students attending school.

DFE/PHE have confirmed that they are happy that our existing arrangements continue to provide a safe environment for the remaining staff and students in school and that the school’s rapid reaction to the positive test has helped to prevent further transmission of the infection.

Please be assured that the school is taking every precaution to prevent transmission of the virus for the safety of our staff and students
