How can we develop Thankfulness in our school community?
In our busy days, how often do we take time to be thankful for what we have? Do we take more time thinking about what we haven’t got instead of being thankful for the things we do have?
We could further develop thankfulness in our school if we took time to appreciate all the things we do have. During our school break let’s think about how lucky we are to have an opportunity to take a break, to stretch our legs and (hopefully) feel a warm sun on our backs. Such an attitude would definitely make us feel positivity in our lives.
Let us all make a special effort to say thank you to our friends, teachers and family.

Third place – Martha Buckley who sang and danced
Second place – Daisy Buckley who danced

How can we develop Service in our school community?
It is interesting looking at the promises made by Cub Scouts and Brownies.
“I promise that I will do my best. To do my duty to God and to the Queen. To help other people And to keep the Cub Scout Law”
“I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Law.”
The Brownie and Cub Scout Laws show the importance of thinking of others before themselves and doing a good turn every day.
An important part of Service and thinking of others before themselves is being able to listen to other people. Some people think that “listening” is becoming a dying skill.
Let’s remember that, in order for us to be truly interdependent, we need to listen to other people. To be truly heard by another person is a great gift we can give each other. Let’s really try to show service to each other by being excellent listeners.
Thirteen Year 8 pupils visited the Houses of Parliament yesterday to discover how our country’s laws are made. These pupils are taking part in the Magistrate’s Mock Trial at Newcastle Law Courts in March. They were accompanied by Mrs Line, Mrs Marriott and Miss Carnaby, and supported by Emma and Emily – students from the University of Brighton’s Criminology Course.

Dr Thomlinson Designers Trophy Success
On Thursday, 30th January, a team of 10 Year 8 Coders, Designers and Builders attended the First Lego League City Shaper Challenge competition at one of the North’s leading software companies SAGE. They had designed, built and programmed robots to complete a series of tasks and had 4 heats against 8 other schools from across Northumberland. They also had a rigorous interview and presentation on a design and build challenge that would help the local area. The task that our team chose to design robots for was flood defence improvement in Rothbury. The team created an impressive powerpoint and demonstration model to show how this would work. They also had a lego build challenge that tested the cohesiveness and team work of our group.
Our team won the trophy for the category of CORE VALUES. The LEGO LEAGUE core values were “Fun/Discovery/Inclusion/

How can we develop Hope in our school community?
This week begins with Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27th and ends with the Feast of Candlemas on 2nd February. Both days are linked with the symbol of the light of the candle.
This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau – a concentration camp in the 2nd World War – and, to show this, people are urged to create a Holocaust flame.
Candlemas is the day when all the candles used in a Church are blessed for a year. It marks the day when Baby Jesus was presented at the temple and Simeon called Jesus a light to the world.
Sometimes things are hard for both ourselves and others and we need to show resilience yet, we can do this. The symbol of light is a powerful one, it shows darkness will be banished,; it shows us that there is hope. We need to make sure the symbol of light is in our school and in our hearts. We must always work hard to do the right thing and to offer hope to all in our community.
