Dear Parents & Carers,
It has been another great week at Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School.
We were delighted to welcome Kev Sutherland to school on Wednesday, 21st February. He is an author and illustrator and he ran some really interesting workshops for our pupils on the art of narrative illustration.
This week was the beginning of a busy half-term of sport. Today we have Year 5/6 Hockey teams at Longhirst and our Key Stage Three rowers competing at Durham University. Next week sees our Key Stage 3 Boys Rugby team compete in the County Cup on Monday and then at Kingston Park on Tuesday. Tuesday also sees the Under 11 and Under 13 Girls Football League begin again and Dr Thomlinson Middle School will be hosting these matches after school on the evening of February 27th.
On Wednesday Year 8 will be visiting Safety Works where they will receive age appropriate advice that will make them more aware of everyday dangers and hazards.
World Book Day Celebrations
Thursday, March 1st will mark our World Book Day celebrations. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading. Every student will receive a £1 World Book Day Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of ten World Book Day books or used to get £1 off any book. Your child will receive a token at the end of Thursday, which can be redeemed at most UK bookshops. Year 5, 6 and 7 students can also quiz any of the WBD books as they are all on Accelerated Reader. This year, we would like students to dress up their heads only as a character from a book; this could be with a hat, a wig, face paints, a mask or a head-dress etc. They must wear school jumpers and polo shirts but can wear non-uniform trousers and shoes. There will be prizes for the Best Dressed in our special WBD Assembly. Students do not need to bring £1 for this.
The Librarians (and avid helpers in the Library) will be holding a cake sale so please bring in money for that.
In form time, each class will hold a book swap. Please bring in a book (which you have already read) to swap for another good read.
Women’s World Day of Prayer
Friday, March 2nd will mark our school contributing to the Woman’s World Day of Prayer at the URC in Rothbury at 1:30pm.
Parent Questionnaire
Your views are very important to us and we ask you to complete our 2018 Parent Questionnaire. If you follow this link you can give your opinions on various areas of our school’s work.
