Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope this email finds you well.  It has been a very busy two weeks at Dr Thomlinson Middle School.

Dr Thomlinson Has Got Talent!

The school is in the middle of our Dr Thomlinson Got Winter Talent Auditions.  Thursday saw the auditions for AIdan; today saw the auditions for Bede and Monday will see the auditions for Cuthbert.

Already we have seen children reading riddles; a number of excellent piano recitals; a Singing in the Rain dance comedy skit; someone eating a cheese sandwich; Stand-Up Comedy; a homage to Horrible Histories aided by a child in a dinosaur suit; Tick Tock Mayhem (a dance act…); a family dance singing duo; a song and dance act; contemporary dance; an expert in the Cha Cha and…the Wolf Boys…they are a folk trio.  We look forward to a dancer; four singers and another “Tic Tockers” act on Monday.

The acts that have made it through to the final will be informed on the afternoon of February 3rd.

Arrangements for Dr Thomlinson Got Winter Talent Final – Wednesday, February 5th 7pm

The auditions have been excellent so the final will be a really entertaining evening.  I would really recommend coming along and enjoying what will be a great show. Performers are asked to arrive at Dr Thomlinson between 6:20pm and 6:30pm on the night of the performance.

The show starts at 7pm and admission is free – I hope you can make it!

Dr Thomlinson Designers Trophy Success

On Thursday, 30th January, a  team of 10 Year 8 Coders, Designers and Builders attended the First Lego League  City Shaper Challenge competition at one of the North’s leading software companies SAGE. They had designed, built and programmed robots to complete a series of tasks and  had 4 heats against 8 other schools from across Northumberland. They also had a rigorous interview and presentation on a design and build challenge that would help the local area. The task that our team chose to design robots for was flood defence improvement in Rothbury.  The team created an impressive powerpoint and demonstration model to show how this would work. They also had a lego build challenge that tested the cohesiveness and team work of our group.

Our team won the trophy for the category of CORE VALUES. The LEGO LEAGUE core values were “Fun/Discovery/Inclusion/Innovation/Impact and Teamwork”. To this our team were proud to add Koinonia, a really important value to Dr.Thomlinson school and they were able to educate the judges in a term that was a new word to them!

Well done to Billy; Catalina; Jenny; Zak; Silas; Logan; Murray; Ben; Joe; Oli; Elliot; Daisy; Skye; Logan; Ben.
